Longcross Discovery Building

Project Location: Longcross, UK

Scope of work: DesignFit was tasked with designing a contemporary façade solution for a prestigious project in Longcross, UK. The project involved the integration of Schüco's innovative façade solutions, including stick curtain wall, windows, doors, and aluminum rainscreen panel systems, to create a visually striking and high-performance building envelope.

Design

  • Schüco Curtain Wall System: A bespoke curtain wall system was designed to meet the specific requirements of the project, incorporating a combination of fixed and operable glazing.

  • High-Performance Glass: Low-E glass with advanced coatings was selected to optimize thermal performance and reduce energy consumption.

  • Aluminium Profiles: Durable and weather-resistant aluminium profiles were used to create a sleek and minimalist aesthetic.

  • Aluminium Rainscreen Panels: A durable and weather-resistant cladding system was selected to enhance the building's aesthetics and thermal performance.

Fabrication Drawings

To ensure accurate fabrication and installation, detailed fabrication drawings were created, including:

  • Glass and Sandwich Panel Schedules: Comprehensive schedules detailing the types, sizes, and specifications of glass and sandwich panel units.

  • Curtain Wall Brackets: Detailed drawings of brackets and connectors used to support the curtain wall system.

  • Flashings: Detailed drawings of flashings and seals to ensure water tightness and durability.

  • Rainscreen Panel Takeoffs: Detailed drawings and specifications for the rainscreen cladding system, including panel sizes, fixings, and joint details.

  • Helping Hand Brackets: Drawings of specialized brackets used to facilitate the installation of façade elements.

  • Carrier Rails: Drawings of carrier rails and support systems for the façade.

Key Design Considerations

  • Complex Geometry: The project involved intricate geometric shapes and varying façade orientations, requiring careful design and engineering.

  • Material Integration: The seamless integration of glass, aluminum, and steel components was a crucial aspect of the design.

  • Energy Efficiency: The selection of high-performance glazing and the optimization of the building envelope contributed to significant energy savings.

  • Aesthetics: The design aimed to create a visually striking façade that would enhance the building's overall appearance.

By addressing these design challenges and leveraging Schüco's innovative façade solutions, DesignFit, a leading provider of Facade design services, successfully delivered a high-performance, visually appealing, and sustainable façade design..
